Doing science or research means interacting with other people: colleagues, peers, project partners, mentors, stakeholders, policy makers, and the media are just a few that spring to mind. The challenge is that few of us are lucky enough to have any formal communication skills training, and that’s where our communication skills programmes come in.
Our communication skills programmes for scientists, researchers, and academics can be tailored to your needs, creating bespoke workshops that touch on several different areas of communication, or that cover one aspect of communication in detail.
We always send out a needs assessment questionnaire in advance to give participants an opportunity to highlight any specific challenges that they are facing, and we do our best to address these on the course.
Interpersonal Skills Training
In this interactive workshop, participants will learn how to understand their style of communication, the way in which other people might communicate, and strategies to communicate effectively in almost any situation.
Facilitation Skills Training
Gathering – online or in person – is a necessary part of work, regardless of role. This interactive programme is designed to help participants learn the skills they need to bring people together, manage group dynamics, guiding discussions, and keep attendees on track to gain buy-in and make good decisions as efficiently as possible.
Building Cultural Intelligence
Culture affects how we communicate and what we understand and expect from others, and culture isn’t simply about “nationality”! Our intercultural awareness programme is designed to help participants understand what culture is, how it drives behaviors, and how to put that knowledge into practice to avoid cross-cultural conflicts and challenges.
Non-verbal Communication Training
Too often, we sabotage ourselves because we don’t realise what we are saying without saying a word. At the same time, we fail to read the non-verbal cues that others send us. The result? Not great. This programme is designed to raise participants’ awareness of what out bodies are saying so that they can pre-empt problems and make a winning impression every time.
Unconscious Bias Training
In this course, we’ll help participants uncover and acknowledge their own biases so that they can identify them when making decisions, and prevent themselves from making decisions based on a biased viewpoint. We’ll look at some of the most common forms that bias takes, how to spot existing organisational bias, how uncovering bias can be beneficial, and how to use strategies to overcome personal and organisational bias.
Need more details? No problem.
